It's a crazy time right now. The virus and the reaction to it, have had a profound impact on the world. How do we, as a people, function in a world which seems to be moving quickly in all kinds of directions, unprecedented directions? My thought? Don't just be an observer, instead, be a thinker, be someone who seriously seeks to comprehend.
Many people are shut in right now, most of us are. By law, we are ordered to shelter at home, to socially distance. Fear is everywhere. It's on all the TV and radio channels, on the internet, on social media. This virus, we are told, is a once in a lifetime disease. My intent is not to present an argument for or against the reaction to the virus. I'm not attempting to spread fear or allay it. I am, though, advocating for putting this time to work in thinking. Contemplation. Shutting out the noise and using this time for thoughtful reflection. I have a great deal of respect for those trying to keep us safe, both on a global and local scale, But that doesn't mean we shouldn't use this time in our own way. I believe that any doctor or nurse will tell you that the best way to keep a patient alive is to listen to what they say. I'm suggesting we need to listen to ourselves, to understand how we feel without other people telling us what is right or wrong. My name is J. Isaac Bowman, and my first book is entitled Descendants of Humanity. I am an advocate for human rights. I hope you take rightful possession of this time to think and reflect seriously about your own place in the universe. Bless you, and take care.
